Lake Hickory

Join Duke McLauchlin on the Catawba River System when you are ready to purchase waterfront property in Western North Carolina. Lake Hickory Realty, LLC has been serving these lakes for over 20 years.

The Catawba River System is made up of several lakes from Duke Energy's hydroelectric dams. Lake James (6812 acres) starts up near Asheville with close-up views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The terrain is steep which affords the best views. Next down the chain you'll find Lake Rhodhiss (3060 acres) which is just now being subdivided into several waterfront / lake access communities that offer different amenities located near the town of Valdese. The topography is less steep than James and has more available properties to choose from. Currently, there are no marinas, so you have to bring in your own gas. But that hasn't stopped anyone from purchasing properties on this secluded lake. Over the next dam, you'll find Lake Hickory (4223 acres) surrounded by 4 counties, Alexander, Burke, Caldwell and Catawba and Hickory, NC. If you are searching for waterfront property on Lake Hickory, take a look at this portal with up-to-date listings. After crossing over Oxford Dam, you'll float down to Lookout Shoals which is a small fishing lake where properties have been handed down for a century. If you're lucky, you'll find a property listed every once in a while. Over that dam, begins the river ride to Lake Norman (32,475 acres),often called "the inland sea". It located amid the towns of Mooresville, Huntersville, Cornelius, Denver, Sherrills Ford, Troutman, to name a few. To begin your search for waterfront properties on Lake Norman, start here!  The Catawba River heads down through several more lakes: Mountain Island Lake, Lake Wylie, Fishing Creek Lake, Great Falls Lake, Rocky Creek Lake and Lake Wateree.
