Foothills of NC Trail

The Foothills are located east of the Appalchian Mountain range in North Carolina and include 9 distinct downtown main streets to familiarize yourself with this spring. Take the Northwest Trail from N Wilkesboro in apple country on Hwy 421 to Boone that is host to Appalachian State Unitversity, then down Hwy 321 to Lenoir with its summer Blackberry Fest, Hickory with the newly created Selfie Walk and the county seat of Catawba in downtown Newton with an abundance of Arts & Crafts.  Get on I-40 West to Valdese founded by the Waldesians, Morganton full of public art installations. The end of this Foothills Trail closes in Marion host to the infamous Livermush Festival, yes, you heard it right!
