Fifty-Eight Pound Catfish from Lake Hickory!
A 58-pound catfish was pulled from Lake Hickory Sunday morning. The man who caught the fish, Stanley Correll Jr., told Channel 9 reporter Dave Faherty that it took him 30 minutes to reel it in. Correll said he was fishing on his pontoon boat with a friend when he caught the fish near Icard Dam in about 3 feet of water. He said he was using a 10-pound line with blueback herring as the bait.
“Catfish on Lake Hickory don’t get this size. When I first set the hook, I actually though it was a big turtle,” Correll said. “I've caught some big turtles out here before. After a little while, the fish did come up after about 15 minutes. I kind of got an idea what it was."
