Affordable Wastewater Solutions
It wasn't until the 1980s that NC required soil scientists to add a repair field when designing septic systems for new construction improvement permits. The Unifour counties during the construction boom of the early 2000s created a moretorium by requiring 1 acre lots for new subdivisions with public water and septic systems; 2 acres if a well was needed. With an acre of land, it was possible to have ample room for septic system and repair field but for older homes, repairs are harder to come by and there haven't been any good inexpensive options for small lots.
Check out this article from Agriwaste.com that gives a new option that the NC Dept of Water Quality has approved on some occasions. "Engineer Kevin Davidson suggested the installation of an advanced treatment system (an AX20-RTUV) with the ability to produce effluent that could meet surface discharge standards, eliminating the need for a drainfield." If you don't need a drainfield or a repair field, you'll have more room for a pool, outdoor kitchen, basketball court, playspaces.
